Walk on the 78th Parallel

The 78 West Longitude is the only whole number parallel that
crosses Letchworth State Park (from Genesee Valley Canal in the south to near
Five Corners in the north). We will explore about 2 miles of the parallel in
Livingston County. Be prepared for brush and poison ivy. There is no trail, we
will be using GPS and compass. Carpooling required. Meet at Trillium
Trailhead, 0.5 mile past Cabin Area E.

Visit some of our oldest forests and therefore many of our largest trees and
several State Champions. Included in this tour is the site of one of our
biggest oaks in the park. The tree fell in the early morning of Aug. 18, 1993
due to fungi decaying its 150-year-old base. Meet at Castile
entrance gate.
