ALERT - Please note, the area of the Catharine Valley Trail from Smith Road going south will be closed until further notice.
This year round recreation trail provides visitors the opportunity to experience the scenic beauty and historic charm of the glacially-carved valley south of Seneca Lake. Following abandoned railroad and canal towpath corridors, the trail passes through a variety of wildlife habitats. The compact stone-dust trail surface accommodates walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Currently six miles of the trail is available for use. When construction is complete the trail will be twelve miles long and extending from the Village of Watkins Glen to Horseheads.
Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Not allowed in bathing areas. Current rabies certificate is required.
2015-16 Hunting Schedule for Finger Lakes State Parks & Historic Sites
On the Catharine Valley Trail, a one-mile section of the trail near the Village of Montour Falls will be closed for approximately four (4) weeks during regular gun season. Reference the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Hunting and Trapping Guide for current dates and rules for regular gun season.
Come join us at the Catharine Valley Trail in celebrating the fifth annual I Love My Park Day! I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event to improve and enhance New York's parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs. Various volunteer projects will be available to choose from.
Meet at the parking lot by Watkins Glen High school (see CVT map). We will hike the trail a little south of Montour Falls for a total hike mileage of approximately 5 miles. Hike length and exact route subject to change due to weather conditions.
Registration: Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (607) 387-7041 ext. 131 and let us know how many people in your group to expect.
