Glimmerglass State Park, located eight miles outside the village of Cooperstown, overlooks Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. The rolling, partially-wooded terrain is host to a wide variety of wildlife. An uphill trail through the forest affords a spectacular view of Otsego Lake; the Beaver Pond and Woodland trails are picturesque and of interest for the variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns and mosses.

The Hyde Hall Mansion, Covered Bridge, and a self-guided Beaver Pond Nature Trail are within park boundaries and open to visitors. Winter visitors can go tubing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, showshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, winter hiking.

Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Not allowed in the bathing areas.

Hours of Operation

  • Open year-round.
  • 2016 Swimming Season:
    5/28/16 - 6/18/16, weekends and holidays, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
    6/19/16 - 9/5/16, daily, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

  • 2016 Camping Season:  5/13/16 - 10/9/16
    50 campsites, 6 people max, minimum 2 night stay.
    Primitive Camping:  Beaver Pond Loops #38-#56; all are walk-in only sites except #44-#49 which can be reserved through Reserve America; available year-round.

  • Park Office Hours:  Vary throughout season.  Call park for details.
    In season:  Late May - Labor Day.
    Friday - Saturday, 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
    Sunday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.

    Off season: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Snowtubing:  Available on Jan. & Feb. weekends only (weather permitting).
  • Shelter/Tent Rentals:  
    Available for reservation, mid-May to Columbus Day, 9:00 a.m. to sunset.  Call park to reserve.

    Lakeview Shelter, capacity 100
    Beachfront Shelter, capacity 65
    Tents (3), capacity 40 each
  • Boat Launching:
    Available a short distance from the parking area for personal non-motorized boats.

Fees & Rates

Most New York State Parks charge a vehicle use fee to enter the facility. Fees vary by location and season. A list of entry fees and other park use fees is available below. For fees not listed or to verify information, please contact the park directly.

Your key to all season enjoyment of state parks is our season's pass. For $65, the Empire Passport provides you unlimited day use vehicle entry into most of our parks. Apply on-line or call your favorite park for more information.

Beaver Pond Sensory Trail Dedication Event

Join us to celebrate the groundbreaking of our new multi-sensory, accessible trail!On June 4th at 12:00 pm, NYS Parks Environmental Educator, Katie Mulverhill will present an over-all description of the new sensory trail, unveil the new kiosk and bench. There will also be a demonstration of an Audio Tour eco-box which was donated by the Cooperstown Lions Club.

The Friends of Glimmerglass State Park will provide lunch for those attendees that have pre-registered by May 27, 2016.

NYS Parks Natural Resource Steward Biologist, Tom Hughes and NYS Parks Environmental Educator, Katie Mulverhill will lead guided hikes of the Beaver Pond Trail at 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm for all to envision the future developments along the sensory trail.
