Caleb Smith State Park Preserve offers environmental education programs year round for schools at all grade levels. The preserve also offers interpretive programs for youth organizations and the general public including Tiny Tots (3-5 year olds), Fun for Kids, Family Adventures, and Adult Ed-ventures.

The nature museum is in the Smith Family home built in 1751. Nature trails lead you through a variety of habitats typical of the north shore of Long Island where many species of plants and animals are found.

No RVs please! Can you imagine cramming everything you own into an itty bitty space and carrying that space everywhere you go? That's what many animals have to do to survive. Join us as we pry into the cramped lifestyle of shell dwelling animals. Live animals will be on display.

This is a special time for both parent and child to discover the wonders of their natural world together. Each program's theme will use nature explorations and hands-on activities as a springboard for learning. Children ages 3-5. Held on Thursdays: 10:00 - 11:00 am

Discover the dragonfly's many beautiful colors, life-cycle and unique behaviors. Dragonflies don't sting and love to eat mosquitoes. Enjoy hands-on activities followed by outdoor capture, observation, and release of these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat.

Everyday creatures are engaged in mortal combat. Mother Nature has equipped each side with specific adaptations to help them stay alive. An indoor training session will be followed by an outdoor recon mission as we search for the highly skilled, ever elusive camouflage commandos.
